Congratulations to SightLine’s Leila Kaneda for her new leadership role running Gorge Women in STEM (GWIS). All of us at SightLine couldn’t be more excited for her. Leila joined SightLine in September 2020 as a Computer Vision Software Engineer. And once she settled in Hood River, she wanted to join a community organization that allowed her to make a meaningful difference in her community. She is passionate about finding ways to help educate the community about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within STEM companies in the Columbia River Gorge.
In 2021, she came across GWIS, signed up, and asked where she could help. At that point, she was also given the opportunity to join the GWIS leadership team. Once involved, she saw the chance to grow the community while forming new relationships along the way.

“We’re in the midst of a pivotal moment for our community and it’s an honor to continue the efforts of former leader Maza Brady. Together with the support of the entire GWIS leadership team, we look forward to rebuilding our community and establishing our voice throughout the region so that we can make a positive change in the Columbia River Gorge. I envision a future where workers at STEM companies are more equally represented and supported, and that starts with building the foundations to support those that are already here while fostering an environment that encourages more talent to join the community.”
